Pocket Puppy Rattery

Hi! My name is Abigail. I got my first rats when I was only 12 years old and I reared them by hand. It did not take much for me to fall in love with these cute animals, and at 17 I got two rats again. Finally in 2022, after a long time of not owning rats, I decided to adopt some pocket puppies for a third time. I was shocked to discover how difficult it was to find fancy rats bred specifically to be pets in Bloemfontein. I eventually saved four ladies from the feeder bin, but they took a lot of time to tame and some had persistent respiratory issues.

After doing some research, I became a member of SAFRA's (South African Fancy Rat Association) mentorship program; learnt about breeding fancy rats and finally got my first proper breeding rats on 29 November 2022. Today I am currently the only breeder of fancy rats in Bloemfontein who breeds specifically for pets. Our rattery is focused on breeding Harley coats, Siameses and Dumbos.

Currently I am a hobby breeder interested in furthering the above-mentioned varieties in South Africa, and providing well-socialised, healthy rats to citizens in Bloemfontein and beyond interested in rats as an alternative pet.
